In March 2023, we embarked on a year-long celebration of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the ancient Priory church of St Bartholomew the Great. During the year we have celebrated our roles as stewards of this extraordinary legacy and we have taken stock of the church’s facilities and fabric.

Maintaining a 900-year-old building as a lively church in the 21st century is not easy - all told it costs us £1,000 a day. We rely on the generosity and charity of our congregation and many visitors, local and global, to help us meet our running costs and we are truly grateful for the support you give us.

The focus of our 900th Anniversary Appeal, is to significantly improve the welcome we can offer you - our visitors, by renovating and adding to our facilities, our educational spaces and gardens. We hope this transformation will encourage more people to discover the delights of of spending time in this incredible church, concealed in plain sight at the epicentre of the most vibrant city on the planet.
