Prayer

Martin Luther

“To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.”

George Herbert

“Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night”

Teresa of Availa

“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.”

Prayer is, perhaps, the most important thing we can do as Christians.

Prayer is how we get to know God. It’s how we learn how to work out what are the important things in life and what we can afford to let go of. It’s when we remember those we love, the situations we’re worried about, our hopes and fears and cares, and offer them up to God, for him to take care of.

Learning how to pray is a lifetime’s journey, but these tips from the Church of England might help. When, where, and how – these are the crucial questions, and the answer will be different for everybody.

There are stands for candles in the Lady Chapel, in front of the painting of the Crucified Christ, at the Chapel of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God, and at the shrine-tomb of our Founder, Prior Rahere. You are welcome to light candles (which are available in the church or from the bookstall) for any intention at any of these.

We pray for people by name at the Choral Eucharist at 11:00am  and at weekday prayer. If you would like us to pray for a particular individual or matter of concern please contact the Parish office.
